What To Expect
When is Church?
Everyone is welcome to come along to either of our weekly Sunday Services at 10:30 and 6:30. Doors open 30 minutes before the services start so feel free to come and grab a seat early if you’d like. Services normally last around an hour and a half but can vary a bit.
As well as our two main services, on the first Sunday of every month we also have a quieter, more traditional service held in Trinity Hall starting at 9am.
First time at HTL – what do I need to know?
At the 10:30 service we also have various groups for young people aged 0-14. Look out for the HTL Kids banner in the café on your way in and register your children ahead of the start of the service. Everyone starts together in the main church, and young people leave for their groups after around 10-15 minutes.
If it’s your first time coming to join us, look out for the team at the welcome banner right at the entrance. The welcome team will help you get your bearings, answer any questions you might have, and let you know about the wider life of the church. This is also where you can sign up to our email list to hear about everything going on at HTL.
On Sundays you are welcome to use the car park on Regent Road (LE1 6YH), but make sure to collect a parking pass from the welcome team and display it in on your dashboard or you may get a ticket!
At the end of the 10:30 service there’s free tea and coffee available. In the same way we have free tea and coffee at the 6:30 but it’s for the half hour before the service instead of after.
Can I come if I’ve never been to church before?
Absolutely! Every Sunday we have people come along who’ve never been to church before. You don’t have to know anything in advance, or even believe in God, to come and see what goes on. No-one is going to make you do anything you don’t want to do (though you might well find yourself trying something you’ve never tried before!)
What does church look like?
Church at HTL is about making space for people to encounter God. We usually spend some time worshipping together, led by a modern live band. There’s often times of prayer led from the front, asking God to make a difference in our lives, our church, our city, our nation and out world. Most weeks we also have a talk, helping us learn what God is saying to us in the Bible.
At every service there is the opportunity for anyone who would like to receive prayer from our prayer team (we often call this “ministry” or “response” time). The leader of the service will explain exactly how this works at the time, and everyone is welcome to be prayed for if you would like, no matter what you think about God.
Every week we have communion together at one of the services (1st and 3rd Sundays of the month at the 10:30, 2nd and 4th Sundays at the 6:30). This involves sharing bread and wine together as Jesus did with his disciples in the Bible and is a powerful way to connect with what He did for us on the cross. As with receiving personal prayer, the service leader will explain everything and there’s no need to join in unless you’d like to.
